Merging psychic skills and astrology: the Sabian symbols

Astrology insights, degree by degree

I wrote recently about the upcoming transit of Venus (if you’re interested in this event, in which Venus will pass in front of the face of the Sun, you can read about it here). In that article, I talked about the possible effects of this rare event by looking at the degrees of Gemini where the transit will take place and referring to the Sabian symbol for that degree.  The Sabian symbols are a wonderful tool to use if you want to deepen your ability to interpret events and planetary placements in astrology charts.

Origin of the Sabian Symbols

As both an astrologer and a psychic reader, I find the Sabian symbols very valuable. In 1925, clairvoyant Elsie Wheeler and astrologer Marc Jones visited a park in San Diego together. Jones had a set of 360 index cards with him, each one marked in small letters on one side with a zodiac sign and degrees. Jones shuffled the cards, then held them up one by one so the writing on them was not visible to either him or Wheeler. Wheeler received a vision for each degree, which she described to Jones who then wrote these down, just a few brief words for each degree.

Wheeler’s psychic skills must have been at their zenith that day. Astrologers have found the images she perceived to be very insightful and evocative of the meaning of each sign in all its permutations of 30 degrees. The Sabian symbols provide a set of visual images to accompany the zodiac, like a sort of astrology-based version of the tarot. I have found them very useful in interpreting astrological events like eclipses, as well as valuable in reading individual charts. Many of my clients have found that learning the Sabian symbols of their natal Sun helped them deepen their level of self-awareness.

I want to share these symbols with readers of this blog, since I know most of you probably do not own the book which collects all of them. Every week or so until I reach the end, I will 30 degrees or more of Sabian symbols, beginning today with Aries. Eventually, each of you who visit this site can look up the symbol for your Sun, Moon and other planets.
